Supporting Graduate Research Publication

Publishing scholarly research is an important component of academic and professional development. Many graduate programs, particularly at the doctoral level, encourage or require publication as part of degree completion. In addition, an increasing number of institutions offer a thesis or dissertation-by-publication pathway, allowing students to incorporate published articles into their final degree requirements.

Despite the importance of publication, many graduate students encounter significant barriers during the publishing process, including lengthy review periods, high publication costs, and limited opportunities to disseminate their work.

IJGR was established to provide graduate students with an accessible platform to share their research with the academic community in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Challenges in Scholarly Publishing

Traditional Academic Journals

Traditional academic journals play an important role in academic publishing; however, graduate students frequently encounter challenges such as:

  • • Publication timelines often range from 6-18 months.
  • • Rejection rates commonly exceed 70-90%.
  • • Delays that may affect academic progression, graduation timelines, or professional advancement

Open-Access Journals

Open-access publishing increases the visibility and accessibility of research, but publication costs can present a significant obstacle for many graduate students.

  • • Publication fees ranging from $1,500 - $3,000 per article.
  • • Limited funding available to support publication expenses
  • • Difficulty distinguishing between reputable and low-quality publishers

The IJGR Approach

The International Journal of Graduate Research was developed to provide graduate students with a practical pathway for sharing scholarly research with a global audience.

Founded by individuals familiar with the challenges of academic research and publishing, IJGR seeks to reduce unnecessary barriers, delays, and costs, while maintaining high standards of academic research.

Our objective is to provide a publication that is accessible, transparent, and focused on supporting graduate research.
